About Vessel Slipping Facilities
Gippsland Ports operates a significant slipway facility at Port Welshpool. Two smaller slipway facilities are located at Mallacoota and Port Franklin.
The Port Welshpool Slipway is ideally located at Port Welshpool, and provides access to a significant slipway with a capacity of 75 tonne. The work able to be performed is generally undertaken by owners or contracted services. There are no limitations to the extent of works that can be undertaken other than those operations that constitute an uncontrolled risk. A formal induction process identifying the OH&S management requirements for the site is prerequisite to undertaking any works at this facility. The operations are overseen by the local Port Manager who arranges to slip and launch vessels.
The Mallacoota Slipway (capacity 16 tonne) is located adjacent to the main Wharf, with easy access to the facility. The work permitted to be performed here is limited to pressure cleaning of hulls, painting and certain repair/maintenance activities. The operations are overseen by a local contractor who slips and re-launches vessels based on prior bookings. Owners and/or contractors perform their own maintenance or repair works.
The Port Franklin Slipway (capacity 10 tonne with a maximum length of 10 metres) is operated by Gippsland Ports using a contractor to perform the lifting and standing operation. The work permitted to be performed here is limited to pressure cleaning of hulls, painting and certain repair/maintenance activities. Bookings can be made through the Paynesville boatyard on 5156 6352. Owners and/or contractors perform their own maintenance or repair works on vessels
